Yesterday evening it felt as though we had been transported to a tropical location.
Today the heatwave continued with blue skies and a gentle breeze. It has been very hot outside while indoors the judicious opening of doors and windows created the perfect amount of coolness.
I've been careful not to spend too long in the sun and have taken advantage of the shade on the terrace. I suspect that there may be a few 'lobsters' after a day spent on the beach. We are just far enough from the beach for the screams of children in the water to be a pleasant sign of excited play rather than an annoying intrusion. Because yes, I am a grumpy old person who doesn't like too much noise around them.
It's been too hot to do anything in the garden apart from the early morning watering and topping up the water in the birdbath and the dog bowl I put out on the grassy cliff. Most people have sensibly not brought their dogs out during the heat but one lady gave me a thumbs up as her dog had a good drink.
I did some mending sitting outside and have reduced my repairs pile to just one thing left to do. But there always seems to be something needing repair. Indoors I got on with some admin and played both the piano and guitar. Not to mention the squats! I went straight back to doing two sets of 100 and my poor thighs are stinging. Perhaps I should have been sensible and started off with fewer but I've never been very sensible.
We'll be off later on for a walking group beach party at Liz's house which backs onto the beach. She bakes potatoes which we eat outside and there is usually a small beach fire sometimes with Swedish candles. It will be nice to see the gang again and tonight should be the perfect evening for sitting outside.
