Last night's sunset wasn't too special but looking eastwards the clouds turned pink for a short while. Still plenty of people down on the beach (and a dog which should not have been there!) with children playing in the waves.
For most of the day it has been quite cloudy with the thermometer (not in direct sun) showing 26C. Towards evening the clouds lessened and now it is getting hotter still. Indoors the wind has created much nicer conditions though the frequent gusts mean I've had to choose between too warm and papers and small objects being blown across the room.
It would be the perfect day for hanging washing out on the line if there was anything left to wash.
Peter went out rowing in the afternoon and came home speaking of significant waves and more difficult rowing conditions (which everyone enjoys).
As usual by the time it gets to Saturday my body is feeling the effects of the week and Friday in particular so I have pottered around doing a number of small outstanding jobs. Those jobs that make me guilty to see not done but that somehow just get left for another time. These included getting on with painting the woodwork where the knots had made yellow stains. I had hoped to get that done before we went on holiday but never quite finished. If it's been dry then I've worked outside either here or at the zoo thinking painting is something that can be done on a wet day. But then the rain comes and I lose all motivation to do anything.
So today I knuckled down and painted everywhere that needed it with the 'stain stop' paint I'd bought. Well the 52 places I went over with knotting solution might not have needed it but the whole of the skirting boards in the blue loo seem to be discoloured (despite the damp man assuring me there was no damp). That might be due to me keeping the radiator in there turned off.
The new paint is fairly runny even after stirring so I had to be careful especially as it is not water soluble. When I tried to clean my brush with white spirits nothing happened either and reading the instructions you need to buy their special brush cleaner. I guess that's another brush that will end up in the bin. Luckily I tend to buy very cheap brushes for anything like gloss paint that doesn't clean easily.
Another job which I'd put off because of the heat was to put up some fliers in the village for Sing For Water which our choir leader has organised again. I had signed up to take fliers to a few places in Borth.
Today one of them said they didn't put up fliers so instead I took one to Uncle Albert's Ice-Cream Emporium. The food and cakes there looked really tasty and their home-made ice cream is delicious. But the last time I had some it was £5 for two scoops. A fair price but too extravagant for just walking down the road.
