Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Tiptoe Through The Bluebells.

The day began hazy and felt quite warm as there wasn't a drop of wind.
But it wasn't long before more and more blue appeared in the sky. The wind too picked up and by the and of the afternoon the strong winds had brought out the kite surfers on a turquoise sea flecked with whitecaps.
I had two dolphin sightings in the morning, the first was of a single dolphin while a bit later two more came by. It was only a quick glimpse in both cases as they were doing the usual thing of working their way along the cliff and were soon out of sight.

We both had space in our schedules today and decided to go out for a walk. Where else should I take Peter but the local bluebell woods?
It took us just 10 minutes to drive to Pwll Crwn, a small wood which along with Coed Gogerddan were part of the landscaped estate of Gogerddan back in the late 17thC. Pwll Crwn was yet another wood where many on the mature trees had been felled by Storm Darragh. There were piles of tree trunks stacked in the parking area and all through the wood there were heaps of branches and sad stumps. As well as clearing up the fallen trees the winding path has been remade with stones.

It was sad to note the loss of so many trees.
The ground was filled with bluebells and the song of many birds echoed through the woods. There is a pretty stream that winds between the trees with the occasional picnic table on the banks. I can see that the stream would be a perfect place for children to play as it was only about 6inches deep with the occasional slightly deeper pool at the bends with just one that was about 2ft deep. At the moment there are still quite a few dead branches in the water but I expect they will eventually be cleared out.
From this glorious wood we walked through the fields of test crops that are part of the university and then crossed the main road into Gogerddan wood. There we walked through more bluebells and trees before retracing our way back to the car.
Back home I got on with the pressure washing of the garden paving. A second wash has improved the slabs alongside the garage and having done those I went on and cleaned all the slabs in the back garden. Typically of me, I was just putting the washer away when I noticed I'd missed one of the smaller slabs. A slab that was covered in green sludge! A quick scrub with a wire brush soon sorted that out.
This evening I've been to choir while Peter was at a rowing club curry night.
