Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

One Step Nearer To A New Camera.

I nearly left it too late to take photos today. The rain started just after I had fed the hens in the morning and continued unabated all day. Nothing like the rain that caused such dreadful flooding in Cumbria 2 days ago. In Cockermouth some streets were suddenly flooded up to a depth of 8ft and a policeman sadly lost his life when a bridge collapsed while he was making sure that the public were safe.

It was a grey wet day and I've been indoors apart from a brief meander round the garden . A few roses are still hanging on and the ever useful hardy geraniums are providing splashes of colour.
These dirt dams may not look effective but they help to divert a lot of the water away onto the fields and when really heavy rain is forecast we put the wooden beams out as well.

The rest of the day has been very relaxed. A lie in, some tidying and lots of time at the pc. Peter gave me a list of possible options for my new camera and I've narrowed them down to several models which I need to check out at the camera shop and then depending where I can get the best price I'll buy my new toy.

Ruta,
I'm in the U.S., but thought I would weigh in on your choice of a new camera. In August I purchased a Canon EOS 450D Rebel Xsi. I absolutely love it! I also added a 70-300mm zoom lens. The combo was pricey, but I won't be buying another camera anytime soon.

I so enjoy your blog. Yesterday's photos of what looked to be an aging Dill Weed, the geraniums, and the last rose of summer...are all plants we have here in West Virginia. Your "ramblings" are lovely. Please continue. I wish we had a way to communicate via email and I would send you some pictures. I am hoping to start a blog by early January. Elora

Hi Elora, Glad you like the blog. I've had a quick look at the specs for your camera and it's a bit above my price range. The Panasonic Lumix FZ38 gives me 18X optical zoom & 4X digital with manual options for exposure and focus and short film clips as well so that is one that I'll be looking at.
Look forward to seeing your blog. PS My son sorted me out on Blogger which is easy to design and free.

Hi Ruta, another step closer how exciting. I've been eyeing up new lenses for Christmas but before that I need to get the camera cleaned as I've got some dust inside (happened in China I think) and a new lens cap which I can't explain but lost this weekend. Can't wait to find out what you decided on.

That first pic on this post is wonderful.

Been reading about the rain and the terrible bridge collapse. Hope it eases soon. JT
