It has been quite chilly with frequent wintry showers, sometimes with hail and even some thunder in the middle of the afternoon. But even when the sun isn't shining the orange leaves on one of the azaleas really light up the view up the drive.
With the approaching winter we are looking forward to having the cavity wall insulation put in but today was a case of 'close but no coconut'. The workmen eventually turned up in the afternoon (I had been told they would be here mid morning), and at first they were quite negative. They felt their van was too long to negotiate the bend at the top of the drive. However they did admit to having 75m of hose so with a bit of persuasion from me they agreed that they could work with their van parked on the hard road and take the hoses in through the windows to drill through the insides of the walls instead of the outside. But then they ran into another problem. The 'quick release' fittings on their hoses were stuck and they couldn't put the 2 sets of hoses together. I have now made a third appointment for 2 weeks time and the equipment will be checked before they leave their depot. Let's hope it's third time lucky.
Today is the day that Vytas heads off to Australia via Kuala Lumpur and I have been watching his progress on Facebook. He has promised to keep in touch and I look forward to following his year long adventure.
