Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Early start.

Much the same this morning , snow drifts across the road etc but we left earlier, ie in the dark as Peter wanted to get in to work on time.
The roads over the top of the hill were still snowed over and there were some impressive snow sculptures at the side of the road. Although we had more sleet and snow during the day our journey home was uneventful until we hit the snow line by the Lewis' farm. We were making our way over the snow when a car coming in the opposite direction stopped and told us that there was a truck stuck on the hill ahead. We pulled over and watched the truck up ahead, reversing and attempting to get up the hill, repeatedly. We gave up waiting and had to drive all the way back to the Muddiford turnoff and up Whitefield Hill which luckily had been cleared and gritted. The back road from Indicott was snowed over but it is fairly level. Just as we pulled up to park by the top of our drive the truck appeared, being towed by an enormous tractor and followed by 2 more large farm vehicles. Tonight I carefully carried down a birthday cake for Ali (previous owner of the Rav). She works at the stables next door and because of the snow was staying with Paul & Sarah and so missed her birthday party yesterday. Her friend in town who had made the cake rang Peter to see if we could take it down to her. They must have gone ahead and had a party yesterday because half the cake had already been eaten. Ali was pleased to get it though.

In 17 years we've had snow that settles about 6 times and 2 of those were last winter. Climatologists say we've had the warmest year ever globally and the UK has had the coldest year in 17 years. Just our luck.
