Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Term Ends.

This morning I left home in bright sun but as I looked across mid -Devon I could see the mist filling all the valleys again. On such days I'm always fascinated by the little clouds that appear in the deep valleys and today the fog was so dense that the ends and top were really clearly defined and it was impossible to see into or through the fog. That burnt off fairly quickly and the whole day has been hot and sunny. It was only returning home that I saw a sea mist rising from the bay while the early evening sun had turned the sea into a sheet of silver.
It was so hot today I was actually concerned about the children being out in the full sun for our charity fun run (a 1 mile stroll around the local secondary school's playing fields) as few of them had hats. They were very hot and thirsty by the time we returned to school but no other ill effects. It was a good way to end the term. Now we have 2 weeks and a day for our Easter holiday. Then we are back to school for 3 days before the whole country gets another day off for the royal wedding. Then follow 2 more 4-day weeks because of random Bank Holidays. Peter gets those days off too but because he works through an agency those days are taken off his holiday entitlement which is rather mean. Driving home through the blazing sunshine felt like summer though the bare hedges and trees show that we are still only in spring.

Once home it was a quick turn around for me as all the staff from school were going out to celebrate the end of term, a successful OFSTED and Ebon's 40th birthday. We went to Jalapino Peppers which is fine if you like chilli (which I don't) so my sea bass was OK but not special. We pre-ordered from school and I wish we had known the specials because I would certainly have had the moules mariniers which I love but never mind. It was more about going out and socialising. I gave a colleague a lift home as she lives out my way and we left the youngsters to carry on carousing in the town pubs and clubs. I want to make the most of the good weather which is set to continue for at least one more day.

Have a wonderful Easter holiday and hope you get lots more glimmers of summer on it's way. I loved reading your description of the changing weather and sea mist rolling in.

I'm over in the UK in August for 3 weeks. Just Alice and I. We'll be staying mostly in Hampshire, as I won't feel like traveling around the country much after the long haul flight, but if you're around and fancy meeting up it would be so lovely to meet you.

Best wishes, Sarah
