The weather is changing today. It is getting colder and there were bright spells interspersed with very heavy showers. As it is back to work for us tomorrow we grabbed our waterproofs and headed down to the beach. I have hardly been out of the house this past week so I really felt the need for some fresh air. We went down to Barricane Beach because the car is not too far away if it starts to rain heavily.
Luckily we had just missed one shower and it stayed bright for the whole time we were there. It was exhilarating in the strong wind and there were not many people around. Down on the beach there was just one family exercising their small children, at least the mother was and the dad was sitting on a rock trying to read a paper. Over on Woolacombe beach there was a large buoy, taller than the Coastguard vehicle next to it, that must have been washed up in all this stormy weather. We are due to have some serious storms in the next few days. If the roads don't become icy I might try and get to the beach for a really wild walk.
After the welcome sea air we called in at Tescos to pick up a few essentials. As it was nearly closing time, being a Bank Holiday, we got some good bargains - 80% off ! The fridge is now full of wedges of Somerset brie ( my French employers would have been horrified to hear of cheese in the fridge), cold meats, a quiche and some strawberries. Lots of nice things for lunches. Before we went out I had made a hearty vegetable soup which we shall be having for supper with coriander, garlic and Parmesan flatbread, another bargain. I am all for finding ways of saving money while still enjoying nice things.
The washing machine completed one wash successfully but I am expecting it to give up at any moment. I have lots of sheets to wash after the holiday and that will give it a good work out. Do or die, machine!
