Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Incy Wincy Spider.

It's been a chilly grey day today.
I could add cutesy eyelashes to the Halloween spider but I think I'll leave it as it is. Just a bit of fun for the village kids and any spending the half-term staying at the holiday parks.

After staring at the garden for the past week and deciding that one of the stipa tenuissima by the pond was crowding out the other plants today I swapped it over with the carex that had been in the big planter. I did a bit more cutting back of the stachys but not too much as you never know how things will make it through the winter.
While I was planting up rooted pieces of stachys in the back garden I noticed some bindweed coming through the end wall. There's an 8ft wide path running up between the back gardens possibly part of a system of old lanes that ran between the fields before the houses were here. Parts have hedges growing into them, other parts are overgrown and some are mown every now and again. Whoever mows has done part of the lane but not the bit by our wall which is now full of nettles, brambles and bindweed. I made a start at cleaning it this afternoon by up removing the brambles and bindweed and pulling the ivy off the wall.  I also pulled up most of the stinging nettles. Maybe once I've strimmed everything back to the ground and raked the broken pots to the side the person who goes up there with their mower will do my side as well.

Yesterday I noticed a rattling from under the car which got worse on my way home. Pete looked at it today and as I suspected it's the exhaust. It's bad enough that we need a new one fitted and the car is booked in for next week.
