Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Still Warm And Still Wet.

Another warm, wet and windy day, drizzle in town and rain up in the hills. Going outside this evening just before the sun went down, the clouds were racing across the sky blown by a westerly wind. This morning I sealed any gaps on the inside of the bedroom windows and I don't know if I am simply imagining things but the room does seem to be much quieter. Driving down into the valley this evening everything was put in soft focus by the rain in the air.
Going into the hen run this morning I found them trapped inside their house because the piece of wood that keeps the door wedged open had snapped. There is plenty of space in there for 3 hens and the food dish is inside so they were fine. The broody hen still spends here days sitting on nothing in the nest box and the other hens have stopped laying in sympathy, (and because of the low light levels). Even though we see foxes occasionally I gave up shutting them in each night many years ago and have never lost a hen. Foxes don't like cats and Elwen at least spends a lot of time in the wood shed hunting rats. Luckily Speedy seems to have given up on his game of chasing the hens around the run.
