This morning it felt like a Borthbados day even down to the white yacht moored in front of us. Sadly later in the morning the clouds rolled in and it all turned quite cold. It wasn't until the early evening that we were back in the sun again. (Which has now gone.)
Not wanting to disturb working people's Bank Holiday I refrained from getting out the pressure washer for a second go at the slabs but instead did some hedge cutting or rather tackled the many long strands of honeysuckle waving out of the top of the hedge. Potentially another noisy job but now that there is a blackbird's nest in the hedge I prefer to use the secateurs and long handled cutter. From there I went on to clipping the garden side of the bottom hedge and general garden tidying. I moved a few plants too which involved a lot of watering as the ground is bone dry.
In the back garden I used some of our spare sand to sort out a paving slab that had a distinct slope. I've also thrown down flower seeds wherever I had any bare soil.
I finished off by making my scarecrow's eyebrows and beard using cut up plastic bags.
I thought I had lost all my phlox last winter but this one is doing fine. Maybe the dead plants were something else?

Thank you. My aunt and uncle used to live in Montreal too.
