For most of the day it was incredibly hot but by late afternoon the wind had picked up and the sky was filling with clouds.
4.00.
As I drove to meet up with my walking friends it seemed as if the whole of mid Wales had descended upon Borth. And understandably too as it is almost the only safe beach in the area.
There is a beach in Aber but that has the disadvantage of trying to find a parking space in town, a small beach with very limited parking at Clarach and that is it unless you drive 30 mins south of Aber. While the long sandy beaches at Ynyslas and Aberdyfi (an hour's drive away) look tempting the strong currents make anything beyond paddling quite dangerous.
Instead I headed inland to meet up with just three others at Tal Y Bont for a gentle walk through the woods.
We followed an overgrown track to a ruined farmhouse on the edge of the wood. There we sat in the shade at the side of the building to eat our lunch and chat.
The trees provided welcome respite from the sun and fortunately there weren't too many biting insects around.
We were quite surprised to see a number of Russula fungi including this green cracked brittlegill which is edible and tasty (according to my research).
I had a hot drive home and decamped to the terrace with a large mug of Earl Grey. All I've done since then is give a handful of necklaces a gentle wash and hung them out on the line to dry.
