The first change of the day was the weather. We've had strong winds that brought a number of showers. Between the showers there has been plenty of sun and high temperatures so long as you were out of the wind. Indoors it has been a very comfortable 24C.
The next change was the early arrival of the builders necessitating a leap out of bed and quickly getting dressed. They'd said they were coming today but then came another email saying there was the possibility of a delay. But they've been here all day, the structure is up and the glass is in our hall. In the end they couldn't get hold of red roofing grade rubber so it will be black but that will hardly notice. It was a nice idea but not vital.
More important was the pitched roof. I knew it would only be a gentle slope but to me it is so much better than a flat lid plonked on top of the porch.
I did have one moment of panic when I saw the width of the sliding door's opening. With the utility room door being (for some reason only known to our first builder) narrow, (it was too narrow for the new standard width freezer) I wanted to make sure we could get furniture and appliances through the porch. I was much relieved when the builder showed me that we can lift the sliding door off from the inside which gives more than enough room. I'd had visions of delivery men having to carry a washing machine out of the French doors, down the steps and through the garden which would not have been fun.
Meanwhile I kept the builders supplied with tea and biscuits. I've also done some sewing which included making a pocket for the latest pair of shorts I bought. Pockets are vital in my opinion especially for shorts when you're not likely to be wearing a jacket or a hoody with pockets. Instead of opening a side seam for the pocket I made a pocket that hangs inside the waistband. I used some very soft fabric that once upon a time was one of our very first duvet covers. I used a large amount of that fabric to make the lining for the mad seagull curtains by the dining table and being me the rest went in one of my fabric stashes. For once I used the sewing machine as I wanted to make French seams for neatness.
The final change of the day was the completion of the sale of our motorhome. It was for a lot less than we paid for it seven years ago especially as there was a large bill for getting it up to a sellable standard. But on the other hand no more yearly: tax, MOT, insurance, maintenance costs and storage fees. I know Peter is relieved to have it all done and over with. But this is also an end to my dreams of travelling like a free spirit to places like Scotland, Ireland or even France. Oh well.
The strong winds have brought out the kite surfers and a few experienced surfers. Still we had amazing family friendly seas over the weekend. Going on a seaside holiday in the UK is a complete gamble, it could be a heatwave or it could be wet and miserable. Most people simply hope for 'dry'.
