It has been warm today with much less wind than yesterday.
Peter spent the day helping with the RNLI Open Day so we postponed croissants and The Archers until tomorrow morning.
The social garlic reaching up from the rockery.
I had intended to spend my day giving the back garden a good old sort out but that didn't quite work out.
Before anything I needed to clean the windows as they were covered with salt giving a rather misty look to the view. That was one of those jobs where one thing led to another, and another.
Once I'd washed the windows it would have been a shame not to wash the balustrade as well. Which let me notice the rusty state of some of the fittings (it always happens with sea air). Out came the vinegar, baking soda and with the aid of an old toothbrush and plenty of elbow grease most of the marks have gone.
There was one more thing to do before I could start gardening - Yesterday when I'd been sawing away at the gate I'd noticed that another coping stone was loose. Rather than start a new tube of adhesive I fished out yesterday's tubes from the bin and carefully scraped out all the adhesive left in the nozzles. But when I went out to take down the coping stone it was stuck fast! Try as I might it did not move. Neither the block underneath nor the whole section of wall moved either. Very strange. I found somewhere else to use up the carefully harvested adhesive and then I could get out to the back garden.
After ...... clearing up the glass where somebody had dropped a bottle of wine on the pavement by the porch. The glass had been pushed to one side but was still a danger to both children and dogs. Our bit of pavement is rough asphalt so I used an old scrubbing brush to make sure there were no splinters of glass left in the dips.
But as I began weeding I realised that my neighbour had family visiting and they were out in the garden just a few feet from me. I didn't feel comfortable being in earshot of their conversation and retreated out to the terrace to do some crocheting instead.
Later I returned to the back garden and did several hours weeding which was probably enough for one day. The herb garden and the not very successful salad bed are now in good shape. I'd left a lot of self sown seedlings to grow but I've taken what I need for the zoo and the rest are in the bag for the dump.
