Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Windy.

The strong winds have been blowing all day. It was quite gloomy to begin with, became sunny and then back to cloudy again.
My main focus today has been the street wall. I removed all the loose coping stones, chipped off the old adhesive which had been used to fix them in place and then glued them back again. That was a simple job done much as a builder would have done it. But then I turned into Mrs. Bodge It. There were some blocks at the end of the wall which someone (probably me) had just stacked in place. As I had plenty of the adhesive tubes I didn't bother mixing up mortar but simply glued them back onto the wall. And then filled in the gaps between the blocks with more adhesive. Any builder or serious DIYer walking past would surely have cause to raise their eyebrows along with a sharp intake of breath at my work. Yes it is an expensive way to repair a wall but far, far cheaper than asking a builder to do it and I had the adhesive so why not use it?
I also tackled the problem gate that gives access to the electricity meter. This was a once very well made gate that has since rotted in places and has swollen so that it no longer fits. When it's windy the gate bangs annoyingly against the wall. It took quite a while to saw/ hack away at the side of the gate but at last I was able to shut the gate and close the bolt. I'm going to have to make a new gate and put new hinges as the old ones are firmly rusted in place. I've tried WD40 but still only one works while the other just bends

I planted out two rockery plants both white flowered, that I picked up in the reduced section at Charlie's but the rest of my day has been spent on housework including ironing the bedding that went out on the line in the afternoon.
