It has been windy all day, sunny in the morning and cloudier in the afternoon.
I had quite an interesting (shall we say) ride on Hazel this morning who was the epitome of a 'chestnut mare' today. I guessed by the way Katie was talking to her when we went into the indoor school that Hazel had been a bit more 'spooky' (horsey term for about to disappear off at a rate of knots) recently so was on my guard.
There was a lot of noise coming from outside which didn't help. To me it sounded like water being hosed into a tub but it was actually the equine dentist working. To Hazel it sounded as if the scariest of predators was about to get her. It didn't help that it was near the corner where the mounting block is. As I swung my leg over her back she spun and tried to race to the other end of the school. I stayed on but poor Katie got a wrench to her shoulder. And from then on Hazel didn't want to go near that corner at all.
While the noise continued I kept Hazel on a 20m circle at the other end of the school spiralling in and spiralling out in order to get her listening to me. Fat chance. I stayed away from the corner for a while but when I tried to work round the whole track we had stops and little spins and basically No No No! from Hazel. Eventually she walked round following Pacman who is Mr Calm but it was still hard work on her own in trot. We managed in the end and had some good 'on the bit' work but we both got puffed out and had to walk on an inner track for a while. It was a fun lesson.
Afterwards I took stuff to the dump and visited the usual shops. I found this sequinned dress in a charity shop, it looked very fetching over my jodhpurs and of course had to come home with me. It was a bargain at only £5. All I need to do is to shorten it and it will be perfect for disco aerobics.
I also got some varnish for the porch seat. The seat was made from thick planks which had a green tinge from whatever they're treated with so I wanted to darken it up a bit. I thought about varnishing the seat tomorrow but by doing it today the varnish will be dry before any post gets pushed through the letter box.
I finished off the afternoon sitting outside with a coffee where I had a grandstand view of a wing surfer jumping over the waves.
He did fall into the sea after this doing what we call the 'drowned butterfly' but quickly recovered to whizz around and jump more waves.

Wing surfing with a hydrofoil, looks like they are surfing on air. So your into a bit of Dancing Queen then with that dress
It's an hour of cardio plus co-ordination fun exercise in a dark hall with disco lights and loud 80's music. The extroverts amongst us favour sequins and glow lights. Better than going to a gym.
