Wet, grey and altogether less dramatic weather today though now it's nighttime stormy weather has blown in with heavy rain and strong winds.
This morning I made some progress with the house blitz washing all the glassware from the open shelves in the dining area. I got great pleasure from seeing the crystal glasses displayed on the shelves all clean and sparkling along with some other glass treasures embelished with a few feathers mostly from Mr Pea.
And then it was time to drive to the Arts Centre at the uni to see the afternoon showing of Avatar 2.
There is a lot of interesting architecture to see at the uni though it felt quite deserted as the students have not yet returned after the holidays. When we came to sing carols here we did our warm up in the upper hall of this round section of the Arts Centre. The unusual buildings below are the Aberystwyth Creative Units providing affordable office and workshop space for arts enterprises and local artists.
We arrived early so that we had plenty of time to park (free as the pay and display machines were covered over.) and then to check out the arts centre and have a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. We also walked round an exhibition documenting refuges fleeing to Wales from the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s which was struck a chord as our parents had also fled the Nazis. (Peter's mother was a badly treated child slave in an SS officer's household during the war.)
Before heading to the cinema we had a look around an exhibition of old and modern ceramics. (Photos tomorrow.)
From the eating area we watched a magpie watching a squirrel that was raiding the rubbish bin in the plaza below us. The squirrel spent a long time in that bin before moving along to the next set of bins. We didn't see the magpie going into the bins but I'm guessing that was what it was planning to do.
And now for the film. It was AMAZING! We don't go to the cinema often, two years since the last time but before we were married we met most weekends to see films in London's West End. Maybe seeing films in the biggest cinemas in the country spoiled us but more likely it was just life and children making it not practical to go out to the cinema in later years. Especially not when we could watch films on a large tv at home. So we only went to the cinema to see the biggest blockbusters. When I booked the seats for today I wasn't sure if I'd done the right thing by choosing seats in the very front row, maybe we would be craning our necks too much but it turned out that the seats were perfect. Plenty of room to stretch our legs out in front of us and the screen was set far back enough to make viewing comfortable. It's only a small cinema seating about 150 but the seats are tiered, soft and comfy and being the afternoon there were only about 20 people watching. So very little rustling which can get quite annoying. And we loved the film. I'm glad I'm not too old and jaded not to be entranced by the 3-d effects which were stunning. I think the only times I didn't have a big grin on my face were during the moments of high drama which though predictable were well done and gripping. I can't wait for the next one when no doubt the villains will get their come-uppance with sufficient lee-way at the end to allow for a follow on film. Who cares?
PS. Remember thos pigs-in-blankets that I couldn't find? It turns out I did buy them after all. When I looked in the freezer I'd been fooled by the cardboard packaging which obscured the bacon wrapped sausages and the large font decription of honey and rosemary pork chipolatas while pigs-in-blankets was in a much smaller font. Guess what we're having tomorrow?
