We had a grey and hazy morning which brightened up a bit in the afternoon but nothing like yesterday's sunshine.
As my photos today were only of the police plane continuously circling overhead on a sad mission to search for a chap who went missing last week the photos here are from yesterday's walk.
I spent a lot of time outside working around the back of the house by the garage. There was some general tidying up to be done, sweeping etc and I also put up a painted wooden bird house on the garage wall. I'm not sure it's in the best place but with so much trellis around the back garden that would have provided easy access for cats there wasn't a lot of choice. I failed in my attempts to drill through the cement render so instead I used brute force to remove some rusted brackets from the wall and used one of the holes to attach the bird house. Another hole was used for a hook to hang up the wet floor mop and I also took off a couple of painted tiles that had been randomly stuck on the wall when that space was part of a lean-to. I did eventually move to the front of the house, dug up some weeds from the narrow strip of gravel and disposed of the branches of the hedge that the plasterer had chopped off (to my annoyance).
Indoors I sewed some patches to the inside pockets of a pair of Peter's trousers for reinforcement and repair of the holes already there. A few things done today.
A red admiral butterfly basking in the sun after a winter spent hibernating.
Early catkins. There was a noticeable difference in the development of the catkins on the north and south sides of this tree.
These two sheep must have been hand reared as they came running up to the gate and allowed my companion to give them a scratch on their heads. There were a few disgusted deep baas as we left without actually feeding them.
