Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Goblin Masquerade.

We were up in good time as Peter was rowing at 9.00 and I wanted to go down and have a chat with another of the rowers about stuff we're getting ready for the carnival. We've got five months to get ready but it's my nature to want to be organised and everyone else agrees it's better to have plenty of time to look out for suitable costume items in charity shops and jumble sales.
It was a bit cloudy in the morning but there was already a lovely warm wind, perfect for drying so the washing machine was on the go all morning. I got the large sofa throws washed and so enthused was I that even the door mats went in. The last one isn't quite dry as I hurriedly brought the washing in when a few isolated rain drops hit the terrace floor but everything else is.
With the washing machine at full pelt I spent the morning having a sort out in the back garden. I had used a corner between the garage and the wall around the oil tank as a storage area for large plant pots, hoses, hanging baskets etc and behind a big plastic bin there was a small tree doing it's best to survive. In the early days I had dug it up from elsewhere in the garden and thought I would give it a chance in that corner. It was growing, just, but now I realise that having a tree, even a small one, right by several walls and the neighbour's retaining wall was not sensible so out the tree came. To prevent anything growing there I laid some terrazzo tiles that had been lurking in my 'could be useful one day' area and then moved the tallest of the acers in its giant pot onto the tiles. Then followed a lot of shifting of the other acers around though right now they are all back in their original places.
And then in the afternoon with the sun shining and the day most beautifully warm I walked down to the hall to see what the Goblin Masquerade was about.

It was like a mini Comicon but more fantasy and steampunk. Plenty of pointy ears and and fairy wings to be seen.
As well as stalls selling some very interesting crafted stuff there were performers and refreshments. Tea and cakes rather than alcohol but I refrained as I am currently working on losing my winter weight.
This lad had the most adorable dragon which he and his mum had made. (Sorry, I didn't get the best view of the dragon.)
There were stalls selling clothing for the fantasy enthusiasts and it was lovely seeing people's outfits. Who doesn't love a bit of dressing up? We took the boys to Sealed Knot musters from the time they were babies and I enjoyed making historically accurate clothes for all of us to wear on our weekends away. Vytas  still goes to musters and he and Sally dress up for Comicons as well.

I took lots of photos of the stalls and will post more later in the week.

That looked like fun. I was interested you used to make your own clothes for the Sealed Knot events.
