Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Work Starts On The Sitting Room.

No rain today. I took the youngsters into town and while Romas was sorting something out at the bank Vicky and I went clothes shopping. We bought a few items in the sales and then found some interesting items in a charity shop. A top for me and several Indian tops and a pair of wrap around trousers for Vicky. We also called in at a large fabric shop as Romas wanted to buy some material to make a big banner to hang at the back of the stage when his band plays. He got some heavy black furnishing fabric which is ideal and to make the lettering we bought some white iron on fabric interfacing.
Fred finally turned up today to start on the sitting room. I had hoped that he could simply plaster over the awful textured walls but the lumps and ridges stick out up to 1cm so it makes more sense to smooth them off first. We set to with wide chisel, metal rasp and hoover to take off the worst while Fred went to change the ordinary plaster for some one-coat white plaster which can be put on more thickly. I 'paid' the youngsters by taking them to Lindsy's Cake shop to choose something special to eat at home. Vicky had a caramel slice, Romas a slice of chocolate & hazelnut cheese cake and I had a slice of banoffee pie, mmm.

By the time we got back from town one section had been done and looks so much better. Fred won't be back until Monday so we have the week-end to work on smoothing the other walls ready for him to plaster.

A detail of an unsmoothed section showing the dreadful ridges. I think the previous owner who built this part of the house was aiming for an 80s night club effect. He had built a substantial stone bar in the corner of the room where my PC now sits. That was the first thing we knocked down when we moved in and then slightly later had a door sized window put in to give a great view of the garden.
