Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

A Few Hiccups.

We had a few light showers in the morning and windy conditions for the rest of the day.
Although the builders had planned to finish laying the paving slabs today the extra slabs did not arrive at the depot as promised. That's what happens when businesses are pared down to the bare minimum. Local depots have some stock but have to rely on filling larger orders from their main warehouse. They had said the slabs would be delivered today but our builder is still waiting. Fingers crossed that they arrive in time for tomorrow and that the weather holds.
We had one builder here for most of the day building the sides of the porch. I got a bit concerned about the position and opening size of the sliding doors when I saw the walls being built. We had stipulated that the door opening should be the same size as the front door and should be directly in line with the front door. The actual size of the porch was at the discretion of the builder. Back in Devon when we had sliding doors put in across the opening into the conservatory we hadn't realised just how narrow the actual opening would be when the door was opened. The guy who came to measure up should have pointed this out as it would have been as easy to put in French doors which would have been better. The size is important here because the very first builder we had put in a narrow back door in the utility room which the new freezer didn't fit through. Today the builder got James (the boss) to come and sort out the door issue. In the end I agreed that the door could be slightly out of line with the front door (which offends my visual design ethic but I don't suppose anyone else will even notice) but have been reassured that the opening width will be the same as the front door.

While the building work was going on in the morning I wrote up 'Spring 2025' in my journal and also tried out another idea for the glass blobs. I like this Nautilus design better than yesterday's crowded Wave design. When I draw out the template I'll take more care with the distances and curves and mark the position of each coloured blob (there are five colours).

I'm now going to wrap up against the wind and sit out on the terrace for a while and then have an early supper as I've got choir tonight.
