A windy and slightly cool day today.
We looked out of the window this morning as we were eating breakfast and saw a group of dinosaurs walking along the cliff. I had seen on FB that they were raising money for KC Horse Rescue a charity in Herefordshire. It's seven miles along the coast path to Aber, hard work in those outfits.
My Sunday walk was a lot less arduous. We met in the car park in Furnace, strolled along the lane for about ten minutes to the very expensive restaurant and accommodation at Ynys Hir. Not to spend over £400 for a meal but for the annual plant fair organised by the Cardigan Horticultural Society to raise funds for the society and the chemo unit at the local hospital.
As well as a good selection of plants grown by the society's members there were also a couple of local nurseries selling plants.
We arrived early but there was a strict 'no selling plants before 2.00' rule. I eyed up a few plants that I wanted and one chap very kindly put one of my selection, a large succulent, aside for me. I then went to the house plant section and waited for 2.00 so that I could buy the one aeonium on offer. I had fallen for aeoniums when we saw them growing on the Isles of Scilly. They can grow outside all year round there and reach impressive sizes. I had eventually bought some but when we moved here I lost them over the winter as I forgot to bring them in. Now this one can spend the winter in the new greenhouse porch along with the other tender plants.
Our entry fee included a raffle, cake and a cold drink (no hot drinks this year I think due to health and safety concerns).
We enjoyed our cake, chatted with people we knew and before the raffle was drawn had a stroll around the gardens with their wildflower meadows and mature trees.
These are the plants I came home with. The iris flowers broke as I carried them back to the car but there will be more next year. The aeonium had been top of my wish list and the burro's tail sedum is another one I had been keeping an eye out for at the garden centre. So I was very happy with my haul.
