Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

No Builders.

We had a wet start to the day so it wasn't a surprise when the builders let us know they wouldn't be coming today.
Maybe that was a good things as I'm not happy with the way they've placed the slabs as the bottom of the steps. (I've marked on a red line along the edge of the flower bed which has a border made up of concrete panels dug into the soil.) Originally there were three slabs fitting across that space at the bottom of the step right up to the flower bed. Now there is an unsightly gap at one end which doesn't go to the end of the step and a cut paving slab at the other. As the slabs have been laid on cement there is nothing that can be done now but to me it sticks out like a sore thumb. With my hyper awareness of visual symmetry I find it quite upsetting. It was all I could think about yesterday evening at choir even though we spent nearly two hours working on one complex arrangement. I can hide the cut slab with pots but it will be a hard job to dig out the edging of the flowerbed and move it over all the way along the shingle section. That is if I can even get the one by the step out with the cement next to it. And no way would I get the builder to do it as I've yet to come across a builder with any respect for plants. And to think we will be paying for something I'm going to have to cover up. I do know how this happened. To get a slope to allow water to run off each section of the new paving they began laying at a mid point and worked their way outwards. Really when they got to the end and saw there was going to be a gap they should have lifted the slabs off the wet cement and started again but I guess they just thought 'That doesn't matter, it's only a small gap.' Well it does matter to me.
On a better note it was Welsh class, the last of the year. Despite all my grumbles and moans I do like the fact that I am learning Welsh and maybe sometime in the future will be able to join in when people around me are speaking in Welsh. There were only five of us today as the rest had work or family commitments. One chap was there even though he's supposed to be having a knee replacement. He went to the hospital for his pre-op appointment and caught covid. Thank goodness I don't have to go in to the hospital here for a pre-op for my toe procedure. They did a pre-op check two years ago when the consultant said I could have the cyst removed and as it's only with a local anaesthetic I don't suppose it's that vital.
Before class I walked down to the shop and bought a small bar of chocolate to take along on the ride tomorrow. I may need an energy boost when we stop for lunch.

By the afternoon the weather had improved so I went and took photos in the garden. I've finally got round to making photo files for both the hardy geraniums and the hydrangeas as I have a number of each and often forget which is which once the flowers are over. I inherited at least 14 hydrangeas with the garden and they seem to love it here. The hardy geraniums have been a favourite of mine for many years. Initially it was because they didn't get eaten by the hordes of slugs that lived in the garden in Devon and they are generally good cottage garden flowers.
All that's left to do is burn off some energy in disco aerobics and try and get an early night.

Ruta, I enjoy reading about your days. If I may make a suggestion to make it easier to read. More paragraphs instead of one long one would be much easier. I hope you are not offended and just ignore me if you don't like the idea. :)

It's a good suggestion which I'll bear in mind. When I'm typing the lines are longer and the paragraphs don't seem too but Blogger does squash them together.
