Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Bluebell Woods.

A sunny day with a warm wind that was perfect for drying the washing I put out on the line.
Today's walk with the walking group took in two woods, Crwm and Goggerdan as we are now in the height of bluebell season. Something I've noticed about this part of Wales is the many small nature reserves dotted around the place with good paths for shorter walks.
With the sun shining down the air was filled with the heady scent of bluebells while all around the birds sang at full volume.
We were a small group today, only seven of us. No doubt due to the fact that it's yet another Bank Holiday weekend.
Our path followed a winding stream where the flickering shapes of small fish, trout? could be seen in the deeper pools in the bends.
From this wood we walked through a field of experimental crop plots belonging to the agricultural research department of Aberystwyth University, across the fortunately not busy main road...
...and then into Goggerdan wood which was just as pretty and bluebell filled as Crwm wood.
Hart's Tongue ferns lining a damp ditch.
More and more bluebells. We stopped near here and perched along the trunk of a fallen tree to eat our lunch.
While we had been walking along we came across a large, maybe 10ft x 6ft, area where the bluebells looked squashed or trampled. Had somebody had a picnic sitting on the bluebells? And then a more likely answer came to me. The damaged patch was on a gentle slope down to the path so maybe someone had decided that having their children or friends rolling down the slope through the bluebells would make a good video for something like tik tok. What a shame to be so destructive. (No photo of that mess.)
Back home it was hard to tear myself away from the view (and the sun) on the terrace but there was ironing to do, the last tomato seedlings to be planted under a cloche and watering to be done.
