Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Stars In Their Eyes.

Tonight was one of those rare occasions when we went out for the evening. To Stars in Their Eyes, Pilton's alternative to the Eurovision Song Contest. (We always watch Eurovision as it's one of those shows that's so bad it's really funny. Mind you it wouldn't have been the same this year without Terry Wogan's pithy comments about the contestants, the presenters and the totally biased voting.) We were very lucky to get hold of tickets to Stars in Their Eyes as Pilton Church Hall is only allowed to have an audience of 120 and everybody wants to go. It was a great evening, we sat with a crowd from school, the booze was flowing freely and spirits were high. Despite the lack of room there was plenty of dancing going on from all of us and plenty of audience participation. Pete enjoyed himself, well he was sitting with 10 women, and he seemed to know most of the other people there. Despite now being part of Barnstaple, Pilton has a very strong community spirit and there is also an annual panto and the Green Man Festival in July.

The acts were very entertaining and the winner was a girl who did an excellent impression of Bjork singing Sh, I'm so quiet. 2nd was Mike doing Neil Young including playing the guitar , his wife and sister both work at our school so there was plenty of loud appreciation from our table.

The final line up, minus 'Bjork' , so here she is below. Her voice was pretty amazing.

3rd was this brave lad doing a number from the Rocky Horror show. Other 'stars' included Meatloaf, Lily Allen and Roger Daltry.

Not forgetting my Headteacher and colleague as ABBA. While their singing wasn't up to the standard of last year when they were the Scissor Sisters, (I think the men put them off), they certainly made up for it in entertainment value. I wouldn't be brave enough to get up on stage and sing live to a hall of slightly inebriated and somewhat rowdy people. Well done to all the performers and of course the whole event raises money for local charities.

I spent the evening being that annoying person who keeps pointing the camera and trying to catch people at their silliest. (Don't worry girls, those pictures will be up in the staffroom on Monday.) I was limited in how many pictures I could take because the video used up a lot of space on the card. I had to use flash so the night club atmosphere has been lost but here are a few pictures showing how we spent the evening.

Neil Young aka Mike has lost his flowing locks at this point.

Yes we were having fun.

AWESOME night! Looks like so much fun! Good on the entertainers for getting up and not being scared to have a laugh for a good cause!
