Another hot day and as I walked down to the garage there was an eerie silence about the street. Anyone with children and any sense had probably gone to the beach while the rest of the population was probably watching either the men's singles tennis final at Wimbledon or the World Cup final in Russia. We've also noticed that it's much quieter in the back garden without our neighbour's radio blaring away.
The montbretia in the front garden has begun to flower. Montbretia is the wild crocosmia often seen growing in Cornish and Devon hedgerows as well as in gardens.
The one DIY job done today was to put sealant around one of the kitchen sinks. Recently some of the original sealant had come away and because the mixer tap had been wrongly positioned when the kitchen was put in (quelle surprise) the resultant water on the counter top would no doubt make its way to the unsealed cut edge and cause further damage. As it was only a small section it shouldn't have taken long. What took more time was walking down to the garage and then trying to prise out the set sealant from the nozzle of the tube only to find, by successive cutting, that the whole tube had set. Back to the garage I went and though the second tube's nozzle was blocked I managed to get enough sealant out to put around about 6" of the sink. Even one tiny job done reduces the feeling of a day wasted. I do like to have a goal and to know that I'm working my way albeit slowly, towards that goal.
Apart from the garden drying up it's been lovely having the choice of sitting outside in the sun or cooling off in the sitting room as a cool breeze comes in through the window. Perfect for ironing and for my daily stint on the exercise bike.
