Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Sunday 6 December 2020

Cold.

This morning there was a smattering of snow up on the highest hill and frost in the garden.
I suppose it shouldn't have been a surprise as last night when I'd been whistling up Speedy at 11.00 it was a clear starlit night. But .... according to the weather chart below which shows average monthly rainfall and temp for Borth the lowest average is 4C in February, or at least it should be.

Being worried about some of my succulents which should thrive in coastal conditions apart from if you have frost at first I put them in boxes ready to bring inside but then I found a length of garden fleece. So now the pots of succulents are back in the raised bed swathed in cosy fleece held down with beach stones. What has gone wrong with the weather?

With the builder due to be here tomorrow (hopefully) I spent some time shifting boxes around. The aim is to empty out my study without turning the rest of the place back into warehouse. Today's labours saw more space cleared in our bedroom ready for yet more boxes and some shuffling around cleared a bit of space by the front door. At the same time I had a delve into a large box of Christmas decorations looking fruitlessly for a small string of lights for the Christmas tree. I think it will be easier just to buy some battery ones when I go to town. From another box I unearthed my lovely winter mouse made by one of the choir members and bought for me by Peter. I so miss singing and the companionship of the choir.

Peter and I went out for a sunny walk later in the afternoon. It doesn't show too clearly in the photo but the stones in the shade were still covered in frost. A gentle walk to test the progress of Peter's knee. It's slowly improving but should improve a lot more after he gets the injection next week.
Sometimes it feels like I'm a dinosaur complaining about IT issues but it seems that each 'update' makes things I do more laborious. The latest round of updates stopped all my open tabs from appearing when I turn on my PC. Usually it's only three tabs but now I have to go through six steps just to set up my jigsaw. The latest glitch is when I upload my photos. For at least ten years each day's photos have gone into a separate file. Now they don't and I have to; create a new file then cut and paste the photos from 'Pictures'. Even when I've made the new file in advance the 'change destination' option doesn't work. So frustrating.

I'm not a fan up updates. Things are never better just different and you have to learn things all over again. Seems like it is just change for change.
Lovely photo of the frost.
