Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Windy.

Strong winds have been whipping up wild seas all day.
During the morning the weather tried to warm up but eventually I had to retire indoors with the washing. That rainy spell lasted all of five minutes but I left my half-dry work clothes on the airer even though the afternoon was verging on hot.
This morning I confirmed that Speedy likes the smell of bleach. Speedy is allowed on the window sill but not the table. Unfortunately he will often roll around on the table as soon as I've given it its morning wipe over with diluted bleach. He gets told to 'Get off the table.' and sometimes he does perhaps aided by being prodded with a finger. If he doesn't then out the door he goes. This morning he was on the radiator with his head on the table, kind of pushing the rules. To see what would happen I put the bleachy paper towel by his head. He promptly rubbed his face on it and then lay with the paper towel under his head. Strange cat. Maybe he associates the smell with food because before I throw it away I often use the paper towel to wipe over the piece of lino that goes under his feeding bowl.
Most of my day has been spent in the back garden which is getting close to completion. I dug up another bucketful of narcissi bulbs and cleared everything from the bed. There's still too much soil in that bed but some will be going in the troughs. I had a big sort out of the plant pots and the last of the concrete blocks and bricks and managed to reduce the space it all took up.
I carefully swept up all along the path but when I went out just now there was soil all over the path presumably dug up by a bird.
It was absolutely glorious out on the terrace and I managed half an hour of sitting out before supper.
Peter went shopping today and came back with some different small tins of mackerel for me to try. Even though I'm happy to eat the same thing every day I try and eat tinned fish for a change from cheese. Just out of interest I checked how many calories there were in each tin for comparison. Imagine my surprise to find that the fish in a vinagrette dressing was almost twice the calories and three times the fat content of the fish in spicy tomato sauce. And a tin of sardines in oil was even less. All the same brand and weight. Of course I would really prefer to eat high fat (and sugar) foods but health needs to take precedence.

My cat does the same thing when I wipe the bathroom floor tiles with a bleach cleaner. A friend's cats are the same way.

I've just googled cats and bleach and it says cats likes the smell of bleach because the chlorine smells like animal pee. Really?
