Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Kitchen - Day One.

Here we are at the end of the first day of the kitchen install and it's looking good. The fitter is a very nice man, they have horses and his daughter rides at the highest standard so you can guess what we chatted about. He is a neat and tidy worker and has come up with a few ideas for small shelves using the left over oak worktop (it comes in set lengths). Currently we have no kitchen sink, gulp, and have to use the bathroom sink instead. At least these days all water comes directly from the mains, no tanks in the loft with possible heath risks from standing water. We'd anticipated only having the microwave for cooking until the kitchen is finished anyway and tomorrow we're going to have fish and chips. The fitter planned to return on Saturday but may be able to come tomorrow afternoon which would be even better.
And this is the state of the sitting room. Imagine if the old units were in there as well. The electricians were here for most of the day as well. Having planned the kitchen in detail months after the kitchen wiring had been done there were a couple of sockets that needed moving over and the light switch needed to go near the door opening rather than the sitting room opening. The ancient cooker was removed, put outside the front door and later on our local scrap metal man came and took it away.
While all this was going on I tried to keep out of the way, first with a walk along the beach before buying some milk, then out in the front garden chopping away. I've carried on thinning the roadside hedge including sawing off some big trunks. It was probably a good thing that rain sent me indoors or else the hedge might be very thin indeed. While I was doing this four young people were rope climbing, with all the gear, down the cliff. For the rest of the afternoon I kept out of the way watching tv in the bedroom.
Later in the afternoon a delivery man brought me this parcel. He was gone before I worked out what it was, the venetian blind I'd ordered for the sitting room. Seeing the banana shaped box I wasn't too optimistic about the state of the contents and true enough the metal frame was badly damaged in two places. I took photos and got on to the company straight away. I spoke to a very helpful lady, sent her photos and she's ordered a replacement blind. She did say it might be possible to unbend those folds so when the replacement arrives I'll offer it on FB if anyone would like to try making it useable.

Great start on the kitchen and how nice to have a worker who is nice and has good ideas.
