Wet.

It rained a lot last night then a windy morning fooled me into handwashing a few items and hanging them up just before it began raining in earnest. And wet it has stayed for the rest of the day.

It's Mothers' Day here in the UK and coinciding with the easing of our lockdown we were able to celebrate by going for a walk at Ynyslas nature reserve. Only two miles away along the beach it had been too far for a round walk and being respectful of the regulations we had waited until we were officially allowed to drive that short distance for a walk. 

Heading up to the beach car park we came to a section of the road that was flooded and rather than risk our little car, turned round and parked in a gateway. From there we walked on to the sand dunes which were also quite wet (above). This creates a unique ecosystem with rare plants that I look forward to seeing later in the spring.

For my North Devon friends the sand dune section of the nature reserve is a compact but similar version of Braunton Burrows. 

It had begun to rain as we parked but undeterred we carried on heading through the crater like dunes out towards the sea. 

                            

I didn't take any photos of the beach mainly because the wind was blowing the rain painfully into our faces and it is just an extension of the beach at Borth. I was happy that we'd finally made it to the sand dunes and though it's a little far to walk it is in easy cycling distance along a flat road. Something to look forward to. 

One thing we will need to be careful of is the chance of finding ordnance on the beach or in the dunes. Some was found on Friday afternoon and had to be guarded by the coastguards until it could be blown up on Saturday morning.

Having had a lovely walk it was good to return to our warm home and watch the wild seas through the sitting room windows.  I also did some more felting and got one leg done on my current project.

Vytas rang and we had a long chat. You never know, we might actually be able to meet up this summer.
