Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Sunny Morning.

Blue skies in the morning followed by grey clouds and heavy rain in the afternoon. The weather changes so quickly here plus we have the benefit of a well insulated and heated house so weather conditions don't affect us that much. It was very different when we lived at Dingles, there was the fear of black ice on the drive any time the temperature dropped and so many times the sound of heavy rain sent me out building wood and mud dams across the drive hoping to prevent the gravel getting washed down into the yard. Not to mention concern about the stream flooding something that many people have been affected by with the latest storm. I can't really think of any weather phenomenon that we have to guard against here though yesterday somebody on the village FB page posted photos from 2016 when a small tornado took half a roof and wall off a building on the High Street.
I wasn't going to waste the lovely weather so went for a walk along the beach on my way to get milk from the shop. I had no plans to do any litter picking today though I had a touch of annoyance when I saw more plastic up on the sand. How could be the sea be so ungrateful and bring in more rubbish?  However I couldn't leave a big clump of fine fishing netting, about half a carrier bag full, that was caught up in the foam so that got taken up to the rubbish bins. I also picked up up a bicycle back wheel. The gears looked rusted but the tyre, a chunky mountain bike type, looked in good condition. I left that by the bins too. Maybe somebody can make use of it. I have ordered myself a litter picker so I can collect up the rubbish without having to bend down. If everybody who regularly walks on a beach did one litter a pick a week I'm sure that would make a difference to the state of the beaches and to the safety of the wildlife. Incidentally I can remember being shocked by the amount of litter including a lot of glass on the beaches near Calais when we went over on a couple of day trips 30 years ago..
No luck again last night with trying to get a Wickes delivery. I've failed to find any information about when they actually have deliveries to this area. Ringing their helpline was an utter waste of time as no matter which set of numbers you press to 'get to the right department' you end up with a recorded message and then the call cuts out. I tried looking for other possible tile suppliers but the other builders' merchants have none or maybe two tiles on offer and the specialist companies don't have cheap utilitarian tiles. Peter spoke to our new builder and he's going to bring some tile samples or at least a link to a local site. While the wood plank style ceramic tiles are nice I'm not that bothered about the utility room. I'd rather get the job done.
There was a sprinkling of snow up on the mountain tops and there's more snow forecast for Sunday.
