Another fairly wild day. The window people came early and once they began Peter and I tried to keep out of their way chopping brambles in the front garden. When it began raining we found some work coats that kept out the wet. However we admitted defeat when our trousers got soaked and headed back inside.
Because the windows people were working on the sitting room and the utility room at the back of the house there was constant toing and froing not to mention clouds of dust everywhere as they did some grinding around the sitting room windows. They did put put down their own dust sheets and I added more of my own. I hid out in our bedroom, did some tidying up in there and then tried not fall asleep while playing scrabble on my tablet. There were five people working on the windows including a young girl apprentice. All very friendly and most appreciative of the tea/coffee and biscuits I kept them supplied with.
The sitting room windows are now in though there is still some finishing off to do. Our builder called by during the day and he looks very stressed/tired so I don't think he'll be back working for a bit. The room looks smaller with the windows in but once the two mattresses currently behind the sofa go and the big cupboard moves back it will look a bit larger. The old bay window now looks like a sun room and that's our new front door in it. They took out the unsafe big pane of glass from the old window, moved the secondary pane across and have even taken the old glass away. That's a weight off my mind and needless to say the room is much warmer.
We are also no longer losing heat from the utility room now that the window and door are in place. No more trying to keep the rain out of the open doorway.
The rain eased off in the afternoon and right now (5.30) a kite surfer and some hopeful surfers are out on the water.
