Welcome to family, friends and visitors. Here you will find interesting (hopefully) pictures of my part of the world, news of our household and probably, long ramblings about anything that catches my interest.

Sunday 10 May 2020

Still Warm.

Despite the ever looming clouds the day began still pleasantly warm. In the house it was a lovely 23C/73.5F. Later as the clouds turned darker the wind picked up and brought much cooler air. On the morning forecast there was talk of a weather front extending across the country from the Bristol Channel and gradually moving south bringing a change in the weather. In Scotland there was word of snow on the hill tops. (Just looked out of the window and I can see rain falling over the sea and Hartland.)

I was saddened to see that one of our neighbours had cut down the pretty tree that stood in the middle of his front lawn. It was a compact tree, maybe a type of cherry, with reddish leaves and pink spring blossom. The neighbour has a very 'controlled' garden but it is a shame.
Later in the afternoon my next-door neighbour had a problem with the big house that stands  behind us. There's a narrow gap that runs behind our gardens which may well have been an access path but now is just no-man's land. The chap in the big house had dug over the strip between our neighbour's back wall and his boundary fence and planted young plants to extend his hedge which for the rest of the garden sits inside his boundary fence. The main problem was that he had set up a sprinkler to water these young plants without noticing that the water was going into my neighbour's garden soaking not only her washing on the rotary line but the back of her shed where the water had soaked through the wood and onto tools and chairs stored in there. With no sign of the offending neighbour and no reply to her calling out my neighbour drove round to the big house. The water was turned off but so far no apology for the wet washing or shed contents.
My afternoon was filled with catching up with admin, working out the best way to record the effects of the latest tablet changes and finishing off copying photos into files for my memory books. Then I treated myself to going through the Red Roofs photos. Some design ideas for the front garden are beginning to emerge,  mainly curved swirly shapes for the raised beds while keeping the established bushes.
